The Parama Purusha has having thousand heads, eyes, feet, and encircles the earth and the entire universe.
Purusha Sukta dedicated to the “ViraT Purusha” the Cosmic Being is found in all Vedas. It is found as 90th Suktam of the 10th Mandalam in Rig Veda (ancient of all the Vedas). Later it was included with some modifications in: 31st chapter in Sukla Yajurveda Vajasena Samhita, Taittiriya Aranyaka in Krishna Yajurveda, Sama Veda as well as Atharvana Veda. Among all Veda mantras, Purusha suktham is most powerful and important ("वेदेषु पौरुषं सूक्तं).
Purusha in Purusha Sukta refers to the Parama Purusha, Purushottama, Narayana in the form of ViraT Purusha. The Lord who sleeps in the Naadi named Pureetath, is called Purusha (पुरी तन्नाड़याँ शेते इति पुरुष:). Purusha Sukta and starts with describing his form initially, manifesting past and present, infinite, controller of mortality. Only a quarter of his being is understood. He is described as ONE and ALL. Then it goes are to describe his as the source of human beings belonging to all Chaturvarnas (4 classes as in educated, ruler, businessmen, and workers).

Here it goes on to describe how the creation was done. Moon came from his mind, Sun from his eye, Indra and Agni came from his face and wind came from his breath. In other words, the breath coming from his is becoming our breath and thereby the soul of our life. It says that the Parama Purush performed first Yagna and who realizes him will be liberated or attain Moksha in this very life. This concludes Purva Narayanam and this is the main part of Purusha Suktha. Uttara Narayanam follows this and it has specific references to the Lord Vishnu in its mention of “Hreeshcha te lakshmeeshcha patnyou ".ह्रीश्चतेलक्ष्मीशचपत्न्यौ".
Purva Narayanam has 16 “ruks” (stanzas) and are adopted as a part of Shodashopachara Puja (puja being conducted to the god everyday as a part of Nitya Puja (daily ritual) in multiple agamas. It is chanted at the start of pancha suktas during rituals in Vaishnava Temples followed by the other 4 (Narayana Sukta, Sri Sukta, Bhu Sukta, and Neela Sukta). Purusha Sukta is also chanted in Saiva temples after the chanting of Sri Rudram or after performing Ekadasa Rudram. While chanting Mahanyaasam, we chant Purva Narayanam and say पुरुषसूक्तगुं पुरुषसूक्तगुं शिरसेस्वाहा to invoke Rudra into our head and chant Uttara Naarayanam and say उत्तरनारायणगुं शिखायैवाशतु to Invoke Rudra into that back of our head (shikha).
First time ever, HCCC is performing Purusha Sukta Yagam. During the Yagam, Purusha Sukta is chanted following Krishna Yajurveda specifications during 5 sessions. In all, it is chanted for 1,600 times. Each session will have multiple chantings of Purva Narayanam and conclude with the chanting of Uttara Narayanam. This Yaagam is performed for universal well-being and great welfare of the world.
